A Room With a Southern View

Thoughts on Life and Liberty from an Average Middle-Class Kentuckian

I was born and raised in southeast Kentucky in a typical Bible Belt small town, a Baby Boomer who came of age in the 1970’s, found Jesus and got married in the ’80’s, became a parent in the ’90’s, and settled into her own skin in the 2000’s. I love the slow relaxed pace of Southern life.

I am a conservative Christian; and my faith is entwined into everything I do, say, and think.  I believe the only way to Heaven is through an active relationship with Jesus Christ.  I’ve made friends and enemies over my opinions of hot-button issues.  I believe homosexuality is a sin, and marriage is between one man and one woman.  I believe abortion is murder.  I believe people warrant higher regard than animals, although animals should never be mistreated.  I support conservation efforts through hunting and environmental care.  I support our right to bear arms.  I support our right to defend ourselves, our family, and our property. I support our right to free speech.  I believe America grew from Godly principles, by Godly people, through Divine intervention.   I believe our Constitution, and Bill of Rights, were ordained by God.

The King James Bible speaks the basis for my beliefs.  I’m happy to talk to others about my faith, and about theirs; but I don’t try to push my beliefs on others, and I expect the same courtesy.  God gives everyone the freedom to choose their own path.  I pray that everyone would choose to follow Jesus, because He said, No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  Therefore, I believe there will be many kind, moral, devout, very surprised and regretful people in Hell one day, which saddens me deeply.  But I respect their right to choose, as I hope they will respect mine.

My husband and I are the best of friends.  My kids are smart, funny, and talented. The four of us are all Christian believers who worship together and enjoy activities as a family.  Being a parent to teenagers is a special challenge, especially in today’s world.  My most fervent prayers are for their well-being: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

We’re all sinners and fall short of God’s perfection.  Lord knows I am guilty of some things I dislike in others. (I dislike them in myself as well.)  I steer clear of people who carry negativity, hatefulness, and judgmental attitudes.  And most of all I can’t tolerate dishonesty!  I’d rather you hurt me with the truth than seduce me with a lie.  The quickest way to turn me against you: lie to me, lie about me, disrespect me, or betray me; and when I say ‘me’ that means my husband and kids also.  I value honesty and loyalty above all.  I stay away from anyone whose bad influence on me outweighs my good influence on them, which has really shortened my friend list, but made the friends I do have even more special.  And made for much more peace and harmony in my life.  I’m always willing to give people a second chance, if they ask for forgiveness and demonstrate a change of attitude. But a third chance is rare! Like I said, I’m not perfect, God still has work to do in me!

I enjoy most types of music,  and enjoy singing along.  I also enjoy writing, reading, painting, photography, sewing, Sudoku, crochet, cross-stitch, fishing, geocaching, RVing, and domestic travel.

My greatest (only) professional aspiration is to be a successful writer.  At the age of six, I began a love affair with books, and from the age of twelve, dreamed of creating them. I am currently working diligently to get my freelance copywriting career up and running.
